City of College Park Opens Gateway Pedestrian Bridge Over Camp Creek Parkway

The City of College Park has officially unveiled the Global Gateway Connector Pedestrian Bridge with a spectacular ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony on Tuesday, June 17. This impressive structure, named in honor of U.S. Congressman David Scott, stands as a testament to his relentless efforts in securing funding for this amazing project. Spanning Camp Creek Parkway, one of the city’s bustling main routes leading to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, this multi-use pedestrian bridge isn’t just a path; it's a lifeline! “I am absolutely thrilled to see this project come to fruition,” exclaimed College Park Councilman Joe Carn, representing Ward 2, where the bridge proudly stands. “This bridge not only links downtown College Park and the GICC, but, more importantly, it ensures that pedestrians and cyclists can safely navigate away from vehicle traffic!”

The Gateway Pedestrian Bridge was funded by a Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant from the U.S Department of Transportation (DOT). In 2014, Congressman Scott, who represented the city from 2003 to 2022, met with College Park elected officials in Washington, D.C. Scott worked tirelessly over the years to secure the $15.4 million needed to design and construct the bridge and trail project. Once secured, the funding was routed through the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).

"I am deeply honored that this bridge now stands as a symbol of our community's growth and connection," said Congressman David Scott. "It has been a privilege to represent College Park in Congress and to work alongside local leaders to secure funding for this vital project which will enhance safety, accessibility, and economic opportunity for College Park residents. This bridge is more than just a structure; it is a testament to the power of collaboration at every level of government and the bright future ahead for our community."
