Field Operations

COMMANDER MAJOR NATHAN WARD

Major Nathan Ward is the commander of Field Operations, which consists of Uniform Patrol, Community Policing, Traffic, Special Operations, and the S.W.A.T. team. 

He is an 8 year veteran of the United States Army where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. 

He began his career with the College Park Police Department in 2003 and has served as a Field Training Officer, Assistant Watch Officer, Special Operations Commander, CID Commander, SWAT operator, and SWAT Commander. 

He possesses the Georgia POST Intermediate, Advanced, Field Training Officer, Supervision, and Management Certifications and was selected as College Park Police Officer of the Year in 2010. 

He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Saint Leo University and a master’s degree from Fort Hays State University in Criminal Justice.

UNIFORM PATROL

The Field Operations Division of the College Park Police Department consists of four Uniform Shifts led by a Lieutenant and two Sergeants with eleven officers and one jailer. 

The Uniform Shifts are primarily responsible for responding to crimes in-progress and proactive patrolling of the City. The Division also contains a Traffic Unit, a Community Oriented Police Unit (COPs), a Special Operations Unit and a SWAT Team. 

Many officers are cross-trained and perform dual functions.


 

S.W.A.T.

Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams are designated law enforcement teams, whose members are recruited, selected, trained, equipped and assigned to resolve critical incidents involving a threat to public safety which would otherwise exceed the capabilities of traditional law enforcement first responders and/or investigative units. 

These incidents can include barricaded subject operations, high risk warrant service and high risk apprehension operations, protective operations, response to active shooter or terrorist-related incidents, etc. 

The College Park Police SWAT team currently has 12 members, which includes a Commander, Assistant Commander, Team Leader, and 9 Operators.


 

SPECIAL OPERATIONS

The College Park Police Special Operations unit primarily focuses on narcotics and vice investigations, crime suppression and “hot spot” patrol activities, warrant service, and other operations in collaboration with outside agencies that help reduce serious crime in the City of College Park. 

Special Operations currently has 9 members, including a Commander, an Investigator assigned to the Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) office, 2 Investigators assigned to a Drug Interdiction, and 5 primary Investigators.
